  • Recommendation for diff and transmission fluid?

Recommendation for diff and transmission fluid for my 97 m3. Also, do I run any risk of blowing up my tranny by changing the oil?

  • #2
    Auto trans or manual trans?

For the diff you can run 75w140 gear oil. The brand is not as important as frequent fluid changes. Check your local auto parts store and see what they have on the shelf.

https://www.rmeuropean.com/Products/...1138-V554.aspx Castrol is the "OEM" fluid for these cars.

You could run ATF, MTL, or MT90.

Redline MTL for the manual transmission works well for me. It also helps reduce chatter if you are running an aftermarket single mass flywheel.

Are you using an LSD diff additive?

Purchase 2 liters for the gearbox, and 2 for the LSD. The LSD takes a around 1.5 (sometimes more) and the gearbox takes slightly less. Just keep filling it until fluid pours out of the fill plug. Make sure the car is on a level surface.

You'll need some sort of pump or fluid transfer thingee. The fill holes are high up. Something with a flexible hose. I use this which comes in a quart and gallon size (I buy these fluids in gallon size).

There are lots of other options.
